After the completion of the course, one is eligible for 6 months of training on the assigned vessel. Once you have completed the required training period, you will need to appear for the Certificate of Competency (COC) Examination conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping.

To be eligible for the GME course, you must hold a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture and have secured a minimum of 55% in the final year of the degree program. You should not have more than six cumulative instances of Repeats/Failures throughout the degree program and must be below 28 years of age.
You need to be in satisfactory physical and medical condition to be eligible for the GME course. A thorough medical examination, overseen by a Panel Doctor sanctioned by D.G. Shipping is obligatory.
