UGC NET JRF Exam 2023: Gateway to PhD admissions

The University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test i.e. UGC NET is a national level examination only being held for Indian applicants. It is conducted by the National test agency ( NTA ) for the appointment of Assistant Professors or Junior Research Fellowship. Its main purpose is to employ skilled professionals at known Indian institutions as well as colleges.

The notification of the UGC NET exam as well as the starting registration date of the exam, are tentatively to be released in April 2023. The online applications will be made on the official website portal i.e. ugcnet.nta.nic.in and are being done in two separate phases. After the filling of the form the individuals need to submit the required documents that are being asked by the examination authority and then only they can sit for the exam. Then if there is any incorrect information that’s being filled in by the candidate then a rectification period is given in a particular month where the candidate can fix all the errors at once. Also if a person has any amount of query in the examination then they can drop their query on the official site in the query section and they will be provided the answers to it in some time.

The necessary documentation that needs to be submitted by the candidate includes UGC NET subject code, master’s degree, marksheets of graduation and post – graduation, 4 exam cities of one’s choice, aadhar card, signature in JPG or JPEG format, passport size photograph, category certificate and at last includes domicile certificate. Without the submission of these documentation one can’t sit in the exam as mentioned above.

In order to be eligible to fill this particular form one should meet certain key requirements like being a maximum of 31 years of age. Also the candidate must have scored an aggregate of 55% in his or her masters from a renowned university that’s recognized by UGC. Other than this the eligibility criteria regarding marks and age differs slightly for SC/ST/OBC/PWD with a total of 50% marks and a 5 year age relaxation for these individuals. The remaining criteria other than this remain the same for all. Also there is a different set of application fees for different candidates. A General candidate needs to pay a deposit of Rs. 1100/- whereas a General (EWS / OBS-NCL) candidate needs to pay a deposit of Rs. 550/- and at last comes SC/ST/PWD/Transgender candidates who have to pay an amount of Rs. 275/-. The fees can be submitted through both online and offline mediums as per the convenience of the candidate.

Furtherly the UGC NET examination will be conducted between 13 June 2023 and 22 June 2023 in two shifts i.e. 9am-12pm and 3pm-6pm respectively. Also two papers are being conducted for it I.e. multiple choice and objective type. It’s an exam that’s being conducted in online format twice a year in both Hindi as well as English language.

In terms of any change in any information one needs to keep a regular check on the official website of the exam. Also there has been no change in the syllabus of the exam since 2019 and the 83 subjects within it still remain the same. Lastly, one of the most important prospects of the exam that’s the stipend offered after the selection process which ranges from INR 25k to INR 60k per month depending on the institute in which the candidate has got admission.
