SOCIAL MEDIA IS YOUR FRIEND OR FOE?

Social Media is something of which we are all aware. It is actually an interconnected technology that facilitates the creation and sharing of information, ideas, interests, and what not. We get to know so many things about which we have never heard or seen before.

Well, there is a lot to learn and know from the social world. People from all over the globe are creating, writing, shooting, and filming to spread knowledge, awareness, information, entertainment, love, hatred, motivation, and many more things. It is like an ocean full of excitement, thrills, horror, comedy, danger, and knowledge.  It is up to the viewers, or the audience, who are on social media. It is the people who decide whether they want social media to be their friend or foe, and that goes for others too. There are people who misuse social media and turn things upside down for others, making things worse.

Everything has its own advantages and disadvantages. It’s we who decide whether to take the advantages or the disadvantages. Whether it is Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc., people need to choose their usage wisely.

Starting from the teenagers to the adults, all are now part of social media. They love being in the virtual world rather than enjoying the real world. It leads them to make new friends and gives them a platform to present their talent and new learnings to a wider audience, but it is also somewhere that distracts them from their studies and work. They are disturbing themselves, getting tensed and irritated because of some baseless things on social media, or they get into an argument with their online friends because they watched something unrealistic and expect the same to happen in their life out of the blue. Getting stressed, and sometimes it turns out to be a big thing. People get jealous over a few likes and comments on their photos and jump to another level for more exposure and followers. This problem is not just with the teenagers or youth, but with the adults too.   Regardless of the hectic or packed schedule they have, whether it is their exams or some important meetings, they will surely scroll down through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and the rest.

The more they get into this, the more they destroy themselves. Starting from cybercrime to bullying others on different platforms, from looting to hacking, from blackmailing to threatening, all these are the dark sides of social media that some creepy and crooked-minded people started and incited others to do so. Lots of people out there are teaching so many good things: exercising, motivating, personality development, arts and crafts, spreading awareness, new lessons, and teaching moral and ethical principles to bring change in the world.

Let’s learn the good things and not get indulged in social media much. We must spend time with our family members and friends and do something exciting to keep ourselves and our surroundings happy. Instead of spreading hatred, let’s scatter happiness.
