Firstly, ask yourself a question – What is an Internship??
In this growing era, students no longer rely on job opportunities, instead they try to look for internships online. Internship is actually an overview of what a job looks like. It gives hands-on experience for a job. Internships can be offline and online and can be on-campus and off-campus. It actually allows students to learn professionalism in corporate life. It lets a trainee learn about all the opportunities of a job. If we talk about the CSE student’s internship, it helps in building proper surroundings for their future job.
Off campus Internship is actually where there is no involvement of college and in the case of off-campus placements, the student can directly apply to companies where they want to do Internship without taking any permission from college.
Here is a complete guide for students who want to apply for off-campus internships.
1. Prepare the resume
An off-campus internship needs a very strong CV or Resume. It actually checks the whole personality trait and the educational background of the students. Building a strong resume is very important as it tells the interviewer, if the student is fit for the Internship or not. The resume must contain all the awards, certificates, the person has received. If the student has any prior knowledge or experience should also be mentioned.
For a CSE Background student, the languages learnt should be mentioned properly. It should also contain the major and the minor projects made till date, as it carries the utmost importance, other than any aspects of the resume.
2. Knowing yourself better
It is beneficial if you know yourself better. It means knowing about your field of interest, in which field you are particularly good at and what is your strongest subject or field!! Everyone should ask these questions to themselves and analyse them. Start doing an internship in the field you think you are good at!!!
3. Preparation for Interviews
Be ready for the interview time, just as you will be ready for the job interview. Internship’s interview is actually a replica of the job’s interview.
What all requirements are there for the Internship’s interview?
The interviewer needs the appropriate resume or cover letter which describes the current skills of the trainee and the current CGPA or SGPA
– Majorly for CSE students, major and minor projects are taken into consideration.
– If there is any work experience before or not.
– Some Internships focus on CGPA which is above 3 or the trainee must have not failed in any semester.
4. Evaluating the whole process
There is a big need to check all the prerequisite of the Internship, what they actually need. Basically, the location of the workplace, if you are capable of joining in that place. Consider the fields like the company’s culture, location and opportunities over there. A student should try to choose the Internship which aligns best to their ideation.
Subjects which are mostly preferred for CSE students?
Basically, a strong command of computer languages is needed. It can be any language, but most preferably Python, looking at the current demands.
The other subjects are –
– Data Structures and Algorithms
– Database Management
– Computer Architecture
Is there any other way of hiring Interns?
Some of the companies organise hackathons instead of coding challenges. Hackathons let the interviewer get the exact knowledge of the student’s capabilities in the Tech field.
These are some of the Internships important for CSE students.
- Programming Internship at the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India
- STEP Software Student Training in Engineering Program Intern
- Software Engineer Internship Opportunity by Google
Internships are very important in every field, but more precisely it is way too important in CSE field, because students learn a lot in the professional background and they get a prior knowledge about the job also.
