NIRF stands for National Institutional Ranking Framework. It is a methodology which was adopted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It was adopted to rank institutions of higher education in India and was approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It was launched on 29th September 2015 by the Minister of Human Resource Development. NIRF ranking ranks the institutions based on their areas of operation. It has been ranked under 11 different categories – overall, university, colleges, management, law, medical, engineering, architecture, pharmacy, dental and research. NIRF Ranking uses several parameters for ranking purposes like research, resources and stakeholder perception and those parameters have been divided into five clusters, which were assigned certain weightages and that depends on the type of institution.
Every year, NIRF brings new categories to give the educational institutes many opportunities to try their fortune in terms of enlisting their institutions as one of the running rival for the renowned position. The Institutes need to go through a detailed processes to achieve position in the top 100th list released by NIRF.

Is NIRF Ranking Trustworthy?
Well, there are many critics who are not sure whether this framework is trustworthy or not, whether it is unbiased, and some other platforms too, where it is doing justice towards the ranking or not. Many renowned institutions were not happy with the system of NIRF which it followed while ranking the universities and colleges based on the categories like Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
This NIRF Ranking was brought so that people won’t follow the traditional way of judging the institutions without knowing the facts about it. Parents were choosing the colleges or universities based on the information their relatives and friends gave them or else from the numbers of students passed out with flying colours. To some extent, that information wasn’t incorrect.
Conclusion
We must not blindly trust the information that is available on the internet. It is also not possible to physically visit the institutions but we must try to gather information from wherever we can. Starting from the internet to relatives, the students of the institutes to friends, we need to do a bit of research. To get into the desired college, it is important to know about it in particular.
