Yes, it is true that social media is a helping hand for all of us! But, we need to be careful before working with the new types of technologies. It is seen that because of peer pressure, nowadays, small kids are seen using social media.

Socialising is a vital part of our life because it helps in connecting with people and sharing our insights with others. Though, Social media is very important for our day to day life, considering searching for every query we ask. Not even in entertainment, it gives employment too. Through social media, we can search for jobs, internships and even for colleges.

In this growing era of social media among teenagers and students, it is necessary to know whether social media does more positive or negative to mental health. More precisely, it leaves a negative impact on people. Scrolling for long hours, makes us and our mind very tiring. Using social media leaves an impact on our body and lifestyle. Students are so much involved in phone, laptop, PC, that they don’t get indulged in physical activities. As a result, teenagers are prone to obesity and depression.

These are some of the ways to reduce social media use –

  • Taking a break from social media

Students/ teenagers can take a break from social media. Meanwhile, they should talk to their family members or friends. Spending time with our people helps in reducing social anxiety. Surely this is the best option and it actually works because people close to us never let us feel demotivated and lonely.

  • Scheduling timers

Students can set alarms. Timer of 20-30 minutes will work. Actually, mobile usage should not be more than 2 hours a day. But, still if you are using social media, set alarms for yourself. Watching screens continuously deteriorates our eye power. When you start watching your phone/laptop or anything, set a timer of 20 minutes. Do not exceed more than that.

  • Set your goals and priorities

Defining a proper goal in your life is very much important. If you have something to achieve, definitely you will work upon it. It will reduce the use of social media because you have something to achieve in your life.

  • Turning off notifications

This will surely reduce your screen time. Students won’t see the messages and then they’ll not start seeing social media. It would actually keep control of yourself. It will keep away from distractions.

Social Media impact varies from person to person. But, in general it creates a negative impact, but no one keeps a record of that. Students must be taught and guided with some responsibilities for themselves. Regularly accessing your social media habits and make adjustments as needed to reduce negative effects and enhance your offline life.
