How to Join Merchant Navy after class 12th: IMUCET 2023

Exam Overview

The Indian Maritime University holds the IMUCET 2023 test (IMU) for admission in various courses of Merchant Navy. Every year, it holds university admission exams. There will be no admission exam for the B.B.A. programme. Admission to different U.G., P.G., and diploma degrees is available through this test. Candidates can enrol in B.Tech, B.B.A., B.Sc., M.Tech, M.B.A., and other programmes.

Different Courses are available for Marine Engineering and Merchant Navy Deck Cadets.

The IMUCET 2023 Registration Process consists of many phases, and applicants must fulfil minimal eligibility criteria to be considered for enrollment at IMU. Only those who have successfully enrolled will be able to download their admission cards.

Exam Pattern

The IMU CET paper is 3 hours long, adding up to 200 marks. It is a computer-based exam in the English medium, and there are no negative markings. The questions are in multiple-choice question format.

The Registration Procedure

  • Go to www.imu.edu.in, the official website of the Indian Maritime University.
  • Select “C.E.T. 2023-Apply online” from the drop-down menu.
  • Go over the entire webpage for details.
  • Check the box that says, “I have read and understood the directions and agree to follow them.”
  • When you click register, a registration window will appear. Fill in all of the essential information. Select “Submit” from the drop-down menu.
  • Receive your application number by email or text message to your mobile phone number.
  • Log in using your registration details as the username and your date of birth as the password.

Application Fees

For applicants corresponding to the General/O.B.C. division, the admission cost for IMU CET 2023 will be INR 1000. SC/ST applicants would have to pay INR 700 as an application fee.

Uploading documents

  • Upload all required documents, including mark sheets from grades 10 and 12, a digitised copy of the completion certificate of undergraduate degrees, and a photocopied copy of the reserved classification certificate, such as Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe, E.W.S. (Economically Weaker Section), or O.B.C. (Other Backward Class) certificate for applicants from the reserved bracket
  • Submit a scanned copy of a colour passport picture with a bright or white backdrop with a dimension of 200*230 pixels but less than or equal to 50 K.B.
  • Upload a digitized signature with quality of 200*100 pixels and a file size of less than 10KB.

Eligibility Criteria for IMUCET:-

Candidates must satisfy specific prerequisites to be admitted to the participating institutes outlined in the IMU CET eligibility criteria. 

Age Restriction:-

Candidates in the general category must be at least 18 years old and no more than 25 years old on August 1, 2023.

The upper age restriction is relaxed by five years for the SC/ST group.

Academic requirements:-

Should have passed any recognised central or state board’s 12th standard (or equivalent) examination in Science background with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Examinations considered-

  • CBSE/ICSE/Intermediate or a two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognised Board/University.
  • General Certificate Education (G.C.E.) examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy is the equivalent examination.
  • H.S.C. vocational examination/High School Certificate Examination of Cambridge University.
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office.
  • High School Certificate from Examination of Cambridge University
  • Certificate from International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office.

If the candidates do not meet the requirements, they will not be assigned to the available seats. As a result, applicants should check the qualifying requirements before filling out the registration form.

Marks requirement:-

  • Candidates must have received at least 60% in chemistry, physics, and Mathematics to be considered.
  • At least 50% of the marks must be earned in English.
  • SC/ST applicants will get a grade reduction; however, this will not apply to English.

Medical requirements (eyesight):-

The following applicants should not be considered for B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science), B.Sc (Nautical Science), B.Sc (Maritime Science), or B.Tech (Marine Engineering):

  • Squint Also has a morbid eye and eyelid ailment that is likely to worsen or reoccur.
  • There must be no trachoma or iris tissue pressure; then, there should be no trachoma or iris problem difficulties. Eyeballs must move throughout all sides and have good depth perception.
  • The pupil should normally react to light adjustments.

Conclusion:-

Qualified applicants will be required to attend IMU CET counselling to be assigned seats on the institute campuses. Candidates must register for the counselling procedure and pay the requisite cost of Rs. 10,000 over the internet.
