MNS : A BRIEF INTRO AND HISTORY
The Indian Military Nursing Services (MNS) is a part of Armed Forces Medical Services{AFMS} of the Indian Army. It was formed under British rule in 1888. In the MNS, an officer is granted Permanent Commission by a Govt Gazette Notification.
In the First World War, many nurses served in the army, in the Middle East, the Mediterranean, the Balkans and onboard hospital ships. With the outbreak of the Second World War, nurses were serving all over the world once again. The Nursing Services was made a part of the British Indian Army permanently on 1 October 1926. 1st October is celebrated as the Corps Day of Military Nursing Service.
Getting Into MNS
The Indian Army invites female candidates only for the admission to 4 years Bachelor of Science in Nursing course. The candidates will be granted Permanent/Short Service Commission in the MNS, only after the successful completion of the Nursing Training(4 years), under the terms and conditions laid down for grant of such Commission. The selection process actually starts with NEET. On the basis of NEET, candidates who are shortlisted, need to appear in General Intelligence and General English (ToGIGE) test, followed by the Psychological Assessment Test (PAT), Interview and Medical Examination also.
NEET is compulsory for all the candidates to get into MNS.
MNS Eligibility 2023
Date of birth – Born between 1st October 1977 and 30th September 2005 (both the dates are included)
Only female candidates are eligible to apply for this position who are married/ separated/ unmarried/ divorced/ widow without any kind of encumbrances.
Interested candidates must have passed 12th with Biology(Botany and Zoology), Physics, Chemistry and English with aggregate marks of 50% in each subject, including English. Candidates need to pass the examination in the first attempt. Those who will be appearing for 12th standard examination(this academic year) can also apply and the proof of passing the examination can be submitted before joining the course.
Qualification NEET mandatory for all female candidates seeking admission for BSc Nursing at AFMS institutes.
Medical fitness of the candidate is required. The minimum height required is 152 cm for entry into the Armed Forces. Candidates from the North-eastern states and Hill will be accepted with a minimum height of 147 cm.
